I know summer hasn't arrived yet, but I truly believe smoothies are a great option all year round. Smoothies are a great way of providing your body with lots of vitamins, minerals and goodness in a tasty and colorful way. 

The fact that you can easily replace a meal with a smoothie is another plus, and is a great option for when you don't have lots of time to enjoy a proper lunch or breakfast.

They are easy and fast to make. You just 'throw' all your ingredients in and let your blender do the rest. You can add fruits, vegetables, seeds, grains, basically whatever you want. Combinations and recipes are infinite, and you will have so many options on the internet that you could probably try a different recipe every day for 10 years without repeating yourself.

It's also a great option for kids. They can participate in the making and they can enjoy a colorful and nutritious glass afterwards.


Today's recipe puts Kiwis under the spotlight. With more vitamin C per serving than oranges, and low in sugar — with just six grams per kiwi, they are excellent food for keeping both your immune and nervous system strong during times of stress. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient when it comes to boosting your immune system to ward off disease, and kiwis may support immune function and reduce the likelihood of developing a cold.

Kiwis are small fruits that pack a lot of flavor and plenty of health benefits. Their green flesh is sweet and tangy. They are also packed with vitamin K, vitamin E, folate, and potassium, and plenty of antioxidants. Kiwis are a great source of fiber and their small black seeds are edible. The soluble dietary fiber found in kiwis can help stimulate regular and healthy digestion. And great news is due to different growing locations, kiwis can be in season year-round.

I have also included bananas and swiss chard. They are full of magnesium, a mineral that helps both your muscles and your mind relax.  Swiss chard is also a nutritional powerhouse -- an excellent source of vitamins K, A, and C, as well as a good source of potassium, iron, and dietary fiber. Add in a tablespoon of chia seeds for healthy fiber, protein, and inflammation-reducing Omega-3s. 

I have named this recipe "Kiwing" You Calm Smoothie since its ingredients promote calmness, tranquility, and a healthy nervous system. Sip this smoothie for breakfast and you will be eating a low-calorie meal that will help you relax while keeping you focused.

"Kiwing" You Calm Smoothie

  • 1 1/2 oz swiss chard
  • 1 banana - peeled
  • 2 kiwis - peeled
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup ice

Just throw everything in the blender, process for 15 seconds and voilà! You can get on with your day!  

Friendly tips: Always use fresh fruits & vegetables. Wash them thoroughly to remove pesticides, dirt, and wax. To make the smoothies as healthy as possible used filtered water and organic fruits.
